Your child should have the math facts in the homework binder's pencil pouch. They should come home each day and return to school each day.
In the binder on the math log right after the paragraph, there is a row that says what each set is supposed to be. The number at the top the card is normally the type that it is. For example 2 + 5 would be part of the 2s. The only exception to this is the doubles (4 + 4; 7 + 7). The math facts are arranged in sets, and is set up to print two sided (addition on one side/subtraction on the other).
Your child should bring home the next set of math fact when s/he has “passed” a level. Passing a level means to be able to give the sum (answer to an addition problem) in less than five seconds.
Everyone will start on “Set 1” and move up as mastery is shown by passing a fluency quiz during the school day. Once the quiz is passed, the student will be allowed to move onto the next set of math facts. Every night students should practice the math facts, but no longer than ten minutes. As students practice at home, if he/she can say the answer in less than 5 seconds, put that fact in the “got it” baggie, and focus on the ones that are more difficult. On the weekends, practice all of the facts to make sure none are forgotten. Don’t forget to fill out the math log. The parent/guardian should sign his/her initials in each box IF you completed the assignment. Ms. Sprouse will check the log each Friday for completion.
